This Week

This week we are learning about the Netherlands and have a big focus on Vincent Van Gogh. Below if an excellent animation of his 'Starry Starry Night' picture. We have shown it to the children today but thought parents would like to see it. It is an great prompt for discussions about painting techniques.

We have been doing our own Starry night pictures in class too!

Egypt!

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week we are learning all about Egypt - both ancient and modern. The weather is helping us to set the scene! Tomorrow we will be having lots of wet play in the outdoor area. You may want to send your child in with a towel or a change of clothes! As always, please ensure they have hats and sun cream applied

On Thursday we will be having an Egyptian Day! Children and adults are invited to dress up as an Ancient Egyptian God or Pharaoh.

As in the picture above, a simple black or white outfit would be fine as we are making lots of wearable craft such as the necklace and headpiece at school.

If you have any empty toilet rolls at home these would be useful too!

This week has started well!

We have had a great start to our week on France today!

Both classes have had a travel agent in their role play area and we have been building famous french landmarks!

Also today we had duck eggs arrive! There are 6 being incubated so we will see how many will hatch! The farm also gave us a talk about which animals lag eggs and we all touched the baby chicks they brought.

Finally both classes had P.E and as well as our usual 'Teddy Tennis' session we also practised an obstacle course for sports day!

Happy Holidays!

We hope you all have a lovely half term, whatever the weather may bring!

For the last half term our topic is Wonderful World. Each week we will have a different country as a focus and children will be immersed in the sights, sounds and tastes of culture of that country! We will be using the money raised from the sponsored hop for workshops such as 'Indian Dance' and 'Sushi Making' and our 'Egyptian Day'.

Please note that we are also attending a 'Forest School Day' on Friday 16th July with http://www.gowildwithusuk.com/. We do not need parent contributions (or attendance) for this as we are using what we did not spend on the coach from the last trip.

Sponsored Hop!

Sponsored Hop!

Today we have given the children a sponsorship sheet for the sponsored hop. The purpose of this activity is for children to become more familiar with money and money related vocabulary. We would like the children to ask friends and family to sponsor them. Your child may need a little help to fill in the sheet, however should do it themselves, writing and saying "pence" and "pound" as necessary.

At the end of the week when we have (hopefully!) completed our space hop, your child can collect their money from each person, handling it themselves and using vocabulary related to coins.

Alien diaries!

As you know Baby Aliens recently crash landed in our playground! They are very friendly and often 'move' at night!

We have decided to take them home at the weekends so they don't get lonely! Each Friday two children from each class will be chosen to take the aliens home. The aliens each have a 'diary' to record their weekend.

We would like the children to write the diary (not parents) of what the aliens get up to.

Let children sound out their own recount of what happened, the writing does not need to be 'perfect'! If you wish to correct spellings - focus on the high frequency 'tricky words' that are in their book bag.

Feel free to include drawings or photos if you wish! We have done the first page as an example. Please bring the alien and diary back on Mondays so we can share with the class.
Every child will have a go at taking an alien home!

Next week Maths morning

Next Wednesday 3rd May, we will be running a maths morning for parents and carers.
It will 9.15 - 10.15 in the infant hall.

We will start with a short presentation at 9.15 about the end of year expectations for maths.

After this we will split you into two groups; one will go into classrooms where all the learning choices will be maths based and the other group will do a maths activity in the hall. This will be for about 15 minutes each and then the groups will swap. We will then bring everyone back together for any questions.

We hope that you can come and that it will be useful in supporting your child at home.

Daily Mile!

As a school we have started to work towards an initiative called the Daily Mile

http://thedailymile.co.uk/

A mile is roughly 4 times around the outside of our school and we have started to work towards this with an initial aim of a mile in a week. We trialed it out last week with one walk around the school and one run. The children loved it although the teachers were a bit puffed!!

Please see this link to the website. They state some of the benefits as;
"It's such a simple yet effective initiative - within a month the children are much fitter, and feel happier and more confident in themselves. By instilling these healthy habits at a young age, we're helping our children to live full and healthy lives."
"Physically active children and young people perform better academically than their inactive peers and those who are most active benefit the most."

Events this week!

As this is a busy week we thought we add a bit more details about the events.

 Wednesday 29th – Pizza cooking at 1.45

We would like as many parents and carers as possible to join us in the infant hall to make pizzas! You will be helping the child roll out the dough and choose their toppings. While we wait for the pizzas to cook, some children would like to read you the stories they have written this term!

Thursday 30th – Easter Bonnet Parade 9.15

We have encouraged children to make an ‘Easter Bonnet’ at home and on Thursday we will be doing a parade! We would love parents and carers to watch as the children do their parade and then we will present winners with a prize.

*This is also the deadline for Planetarium trip slips to be back in school

Friday31st- Egg decorating competition

Children need to bring their decorated egg into the hall and place it on the Reception table with a label. Mrs Wilson and School council will choose a boy and girl winner from each class during the day. Eggs need to be collected from the hall at the end of the day.

School finishes at 2.00 on Friday! Children will have a little bit of homework to complete over the holidays.
